James LeClaire: Why Won't You Let Me Die

This song is close to my heart. My Grandmother Leclaire was one of my favourite people. She was pure love. I would visit her regularly. I would dance with her, sing to her, look at her photo albums and ask all about her life. She called me, “My Jamie”. What a sweetheart.

She lived a long and healthy life. She had many obstacles, stresses and challenges, but she persevered. She was a devout Catholic and followed God’s word every day. As she got into her 90’s, her life changed dramatically as she was moved out of her home to a retirement home. She needed a walker, her hearing was going, and she had to go through many regular embarrassing procedures.

At 94, she was ready to move on. So, she would tell me that she prayed to God every night to take her. She was frustrated and upset because she felt her prayers were being ignored. She would say to me, “I did everything he asked! Why is he torturing me like this!”.

This saddened me. Eventually she passed away, but not due to the mercy of her God. A few years later, inspired by my conversations with her, I wrote “Why Won’t You Let Me Die'“.

The video was created from the photographs from my grandma’s albums that she left to me.

Take care of your loved ones and make them feel fully loved and appreciated.
