Joshua Joyce - A Tender & Violent Nature Release Show
w/ The Family Name and Odd Marshall
Friday, August 1st
Cameron House Backroom - Toronto, ON
Toronto-based singer-songwriter Joshua Joyce has released his debut album, A Tender & Violent Nature. The record "offers a kind of quiet companionship...the musical equivalent of sitting in silence with someone who truly understands. For a debut, it’s remarkably assured. Joyce’s folk sensibility leans more towards the narrative richness of alt-country than traditional fingerstyle. Yet, it’s his voice—both lyrical and literal—that anchors it all....Joyce has arrived, not with fanfare, but with substance."
The songs on Joyce’s first album, A Tender & Violent Nature, came to him like so many things in life—at first and fits and starts, and then all at once. Recorded mostly in his Greektown loft studio, the album’s ten songs take shape along the same register as it’s title—intimate but propulsive, hurt but romantic, tender and violent. It’s a record about coming home, about making peace with who and what you are, and about living in the space between past and present truths.
To celebrate the album’s release, Joyce will be performing the album in full on August 1st at the Cameron House Backroom in Toronto. He’ll be joined on the bill by folk duo The Family Name as well as Odd Marshall. Tickets can be purchased in advance at musiccitynorth.ca. Don’t miss this chance to see this late-blooming folk troubadour in an intimate setting at one of Toronto’s best venues.
