Kaeley Jade: The Ceiling

Edmonton-based alternative-folk artist Kaeley Jade releases her moving new single "The Ceiling" and its accompanying music video.

Co-written with singer/songwriter and friend Amanda Penner (Halfway Home), and produced and mixed by JUNO-Award Winning producer and musician Hill Kourkoutis (Aysanabee, Sebastian Gaskin), the track was born out of conversations about global unrest and feelings of powerlessness. Kaeley explains, “I had been holding onto the seed of a song about the days when you wake up in a haze, struggling to connect with the world around you, when everything just feels utterly wrong—almost like waking up on the ceiling. That idea grew into what became this song.”

“The Ceiling” has been climbing the charts of the Indigenous Music Countdown, last sitting at Number 3. Turning the world upside down, its epic accompanying music video (directed by Dale Bailey), premiered on Americana UK, which praised it, saying "the haunting video turns everything, quite literally, on its head... an inventive visual concept... Jade’s vocal melody is memorable and compelling, delivering an urgent and evocative message through beautiful music.”

“The Ceiling” invites us to celebrate the times we get out of bed on the days when we feel like we can’t, about continuing to care for one another, and about taking that first step towards building a better future.

Beyond the release, Kaeley has had an exciting year—fresh off a 30+ date tour across Alberta, BC, Saskatchewan, Manitoba, and Ontario, she was recently announced as a participant in the TD Incubator for Creative Entrepreneurship and Women in Music Canada Entrepreneur Accelerator.
