Kentucky: Born American

Singer/songwriter Kentucky has released another single and music video, this time tackling Birthright Citizenship in the USA. The song is called Born American, and it presents the topic without moralizing or politicizing. It simply says what is happening and what could come next, while asking what kind of world we want our children to inherit instead of leaving it to them to battle. Birthright Citizenship, the constitutional principle that any child born in the USA is automatically granted American citizenship, is currently before the Supreme Court, as the current government seeks to end the practice. Kentucky, although having lived in the USA (legally) and having toured it many times, is Canadian born and raised. So why is he raising this question within Canada and our Ontario music scene? Do you think Birthright Citizenship could ever be ended in Canada? Born American - is he? Are you? Who is? What does being Born American mean? What will it mean? Most importantly - what is the life of a child worth?
