Red Bird - Ottawa, ON
Nova Scotia raised, Ottawa based singer-songwriter Malia Rogers has a clear musical mission: be the first person in the room to drop her shield, and in doing so, move others to lower their own. Her introspective, conversational folk offerings carefully balance melancholy and hope, touching audiences with precise lyricism, warm alto vocals, and gentle wit.
Having released her debut EP at Red Bird last May and more recently opened for Jim Bryson’s midwinter shows, Malia is thrilled to be back at Red Bird in a trio with her friends Emma Bayash (vocals/keys) and Erik Johnson-Scherger (strings) - as well as award-winning special guest Mallory Chipman, who will open the show in a duo with Brett Hansen.
Audiences can expect stirring celtic and bluegrass-inspired melodies, relatable stories about love, grief, and self-discovery, intricate harmonies supported by fingerstyle guitar and clawhammer banjo, and maybe even a cross-act collaboration or two.
