Merilainen Music Inc.: Raven Reid - Stages Of Gold
Raven Reid releases 2nd album!
Raven Reid has been defying the odds her entire life, and with her new album Stages Of Gold she has accomplished another long-held goal that only a few years ago seemed out of reach: Recording her songs with a full band live off the floor in a Toronto studio. Stages Of Gold is a 10-song collection that offers further unflinching glimpses of Raven’s life as an Indigenous woman, but in contrast to her sparse and affecting 2024 debut album Waiting For Change, this time she was joined by top-notch players at Toronto’s Gold Standard Studios, under the guidance of producer Marc Merilainen (Nadjiwan).
With the already released singles “Love A Loser” (currently #9 on the Canadian Indie Country Countdown) and “Too Late” displaying Raven’s adeptness at different styles of country, on other standout tracks such as “Highway Of Tears” and “Grifter’s Howl,” she doesn’t hold back in expressing her anger and frustration at the struggles facing Indigenous communities. It all comes together on the title track, Stages Of Gold, a song that brings Raven’s story full circle, from “Sixties Scoop” survivor to escaping with her kids from a Saskatoon battered women’s shelter, to performing in front of rapt audiences across Canada. On Stages Of Gold, Raven Reid continues to inspire through her artistic evolution.
