Njacko Backo and Kalimbas At Work @ The Redwood Theatre

Saturday May 31 - 7pm

The Redwood Theatre - Toronto, ON

$20 adv/$25 door

Come celebrate with us! We promise an evening filled with joy, community, and music that pulls you in and keeps you going with an energy that just won’t quit.

Njacko Backo is thrilled to announce the release of his 13th album entitled "Mieux Vaut Tard Que Jamais / Better Late Than Never.” The concert will feature opening performances from special guests Nii Osabu, Nyama Bill, and Njacko’s youngest son, Nkoni Backo. DJ Moussa will round out the evening, spinning the latest African hits and classics into the night.

A Juno-nominated musician and songwriter, Njacko is known for his mastery of the Kalimba (African piano), Ngoni (African harp), and ability to blend traditional and modern instruments and sounds. On this latest release, he embraced his Cameroonian roots on a new level, collaborating with several other African musicians who deeply understand the nuance of Central African music. Maga Benam is featured prominently on the album, a style of music that Njacko created by fusing the traditions of Mangambeu and Ben Skin.

Njacko’s lyrics carry a powerful, yet often humorous message about the importance of respect, love, integrity, community and self-worth. This album reflects his pride in seeing the younger generation across Africa reclaim their sovereignty and courageously challenge old ways.
