Terry Donaghue: Still Waters

ree

“In the spring of 2025 I heard an episode on the radio discussing the healing powers of blue spaces – that is the mental and physical benefits gained by being close to a body of water whether ocean, lake or river. I was familiar with the concept of forest bathing and having lived close to water all my life this resonated strongly with me.”

Still Waters was recorded at the legendary Kensington Sound studio, engineered, produced and arranged by Vezy Tayyeb. Vezy also played guitar and piano. Debbie Danbrook added shakulute – a silver flute fitted with a custom-made shakuhachi mouthpiece giving it the tonality of the shakuhachi with the full range of notes available on a silver flute. Debbie is the first woman to become a master of the shakuhachi, a traditional Japanese bamboo flute. Sybil Shanahan added a lovely cello track to the song. Sybil performs in a variety of genres from classical to folk and has backed a variety of headline artists such as Seal, Sigur Rós and The Tenors.
