The Bookends: In Search of the Celtic Sound
The Bookends are delighted to reveal they will be part of a huge new project - a landmark feature documentary, “In Search of the Celtic Sound”.
Together, Ireland’s Red Shoe Productions and Canada’s Ballinran Entertainment unveiled their new Canada-Ireland treaty co-production during TIFF 2026 as part of the 2027 Canada-Ireland 180 Initiative.
“In Search of the Celtic Sound” is an ambitious feature documentary exploring the extraordinary endurance and global influence of Celtic music. Filmed in Canada and across Ireland, the documentary brings together Canadian and Irish creative teams on a musical journey in search of the roots of a sound that has travelled around the world. The programme is led by JUNO-nominated Canadian Celtic folk group The Bookends, from Stratford, Ontario, who will cross the Atlantic to undertake an extraordinary musical journey through Ireland.
The Canada–Ireland treaty co-production is being produced for RTÉ in Ireland and Stageview TV in Canada. Buffalo Toronto Public Media, and WPBS will be partnering on distribution to all Public Television Stations in the U.S.
