Sister-fronted post-folk band The Lifers have just released ‘Don’t Touch Me’, the anthemic debut single from their upcoming album ‘Honesty’.
'Don’t Touch Me' is available today on all your favourite platforms, and tickets to their album release tour this fall have just gone live.
Anita shares, “I was sexually assaulted multiple times in my late teens and never reckoned with it. Then I found myself in a really beautiful, healthy relationship but was still carrying all those wounds and they were interfering with my freedom of intimate expression. This song found its way to me in a moment of needing to not be touched, even by the safest person in my life.”
Produced by Sam Gleason (Jeremy Dutcher, Charlotte Cornfield) in the rolling, snow-laden hills of Frontenac County, Ontario, 'Don’t Touch Me' was recorded by the full six-piece band. “In the studio, we were able to turn the trauma into a safe, goofy, wild, fun, and expressive space,” Anita explains.
Don’t Touch Me is a post-folk / indie-rock banger, reflecting The Lifers exactly where they are right now: reemerging with vivid dreams, clear intentions, and a lot less baggage. The song is a direct call to feel deeper, love gentler, and have fun despite all the shit.
