Sister-fronted post-folk band The Lifers have just released their single ‘Haunt’, in advance of upcoming album ‘Honesty’. 'Haunt' is available today on all your favourite platforms, and tickets for their album release tour are now available.
Haunt explores the challenge of sharing stories of sexual trauma with family (“I finally told my sister after five years / Of almost but shameful”).
Anita says, “I was sexually assaulted multiple times in my late teens and never reckoned with it. Then I saw an abuser again after 5 years of suppressing this trauma and finally told my sister about it. This was the start of the process of unfolding and healing - with support.”
Produced by Sam Gleason (Jeremy Dutcher, Charlotte Cornfield) in the rolling, snow-laden hills of Frontenac County, Ontario, Haunt was recorded by the full six-piece band. “In the studio, we were able to turn the trauma into a safe, goofy, wild, fun, and expressive space,” Anita explains.
Haunt is a post-folk / indie-pop journey, reflecting The Lifers exactly where they are right now: reemerging with vivid dreams, clear intentions, and a lot less baggage.
