David Leask: When I Become Confused

This is a new song I’ve just released that comes with a poignant animated video. The idea was originally given to me by an old school chum Bob Keiller in a touching poem he had written after his mother Ada passed away from Alzheimer’s, called "When I Become Confused.” At the time I read Rob’s moving poem, my wife was a full time carer for her mother Ruth who was dealing with dementia. While watching Ruth and the progression of the disease, I had started noticing things that helped me imagine what it might be like for her and tried to translate this into a song that might open people to a sense of understanding for someone living with this disease and for those journeying with them. It feels like more than just a song and video. It’s both a musical offering and a call to awareness, reminding us of the power of music to reach beyond memory, into shared human connection. I’m excited to be partnering with the Alzheimer Society of Peel to help raise awareness.
“It was an honour to be asked to play on this beautiful song of David's. I applaud David in his attempts to reach a wider group of people to make them aware of what it is like to navigate this disease.” - Aaron Davis (Holly Cole Trio)
